What We Carry
Antiques & Collecting

Old Church Gallery in Shell Knob carries American primitives, Victorian estate pieces, paper ephemera, fine art, and decorative objects.

A good antique isn't just old. It's a thing that was made carefully, used honestly, and survived. That already puts it ahead of most things made today.

The shop reflects what Tom and Nancy are actually drawn to rather than what's easy to move. If you're a serious collector or just starting out, there's usually something here worth your time.

American Primitives

Crocks, butter molds, hand-forged tools, painted furniture, folk carvings. Things made by hand before the age of machines. Each one is slightly different from every other one, because that's what happens when a person makes something instead of a factory.

Good original surface matters. The wear and age that comes from actual use is part of what you're buying, and it's part of what we look for.

Estate & Victorian

Furniture, silver, glassware, textiles, jewelry. The Victorians kept everything and valued accumulation, which is useful if you're a collector. A well-made piece from the 1880s was built to outlast its century, and most of them have.

We pay attention to condition and provenance when we can get it. We also think a piece can have a small repair and still be worth having. Perfection isn't always the point.

Estate pieces carry history in ways that are sometimes documented and sometimes only readable in the wear.

Paper & Ephemera

Old maps, family Bibles with inscriptions, postcards, seed catalogs, ledger books. Paper things survived because someone kept them, not because anyone thought they'd matter later. That accidental quality is part of what makes them worth collecting.

Paper with handwriting in it is worth slowing down for. Paper is also undervalued by a lot of collectors, which means there are still genuinely good things at reasonable prices if you know what to look for.

Fine Art & Decorative Objects

Paintings, prints, ceramics, and decorative pieces that don't fit a category. We carry things because they're good, not because they're easy to describe. If it's here, it earned its place.

A Note on Condition

We're not condition purists, but we're honest about what we're selling. A piece that's been used, repaired, or just lived with can still be remarkable. We'd rather tell you exactly what you're looking at than let you figure it out at home.
